Performance skills have always played a major role in the schools curriculum and ample opportunity is given to those pupils who wish to further their performing skills. The school's very own production company enables pupils and students to perform in professional venues all over the north east of England. Kathleen's own experience as a professional dancer combined with the talented skills of the schools Technical Director Ben Body enable the school to turn out productions of the very highest quality. No strangers to the Sunderland Empire, the school has also performed at the Theatre Royal Newcastle, the Garland Theatre Durham, Butlins Skegness and the Edinburgh Festival to name just a few. Pupils have appeared with the Royal Shakespeare Company, The Birmingham Royal Ballet, and The Ellen Kent Opera.
Pupils are highly successful at open auditions for professional product and have played the lead
children's roles in both South Pacific and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, they are frequently used for extra work and T.V. commercials.
The school was delighted to supply a team of juveniles for the 2008/2009 pantomime Aladdin at the Sunderland Empire.
They have their own cabaret group, and educational section which takes both performances and workshops into the local community and schools. For further details of future productions and or workshops please tel.
